Day Trip - The You Yangs 23 August 2026
You Yangs Regional Park
09:00 – 17:00
The You Yangs provide some great climbing on granite reasonably close to Melbourne. While there are some 'old school' classic cracks, including some lower grade ones, most of the climbing at the 'Youies' is slab climbing! So get your smearing boots on and focus on your footwork on this day trip. Cooler temperatures are perfect for the necessary friction and  footwork in the 'Youies'. There are a range of crags to choose from at the 'Youies', and our Trip Organiser will let you know which crag closer to the day. Many of the crags offer short, single pitch routes which make make it easy to lead or set up topropes. Many of the old 'carrots' have been replaced recently by volunteers with Safer Cliffs Victoria and Crag Stewards Victoria. Here's your chance to climb with the new fixed gear. Trip Organiser - Phil Gynther  Email the trip organiser for more information on the trip.  Meeting We will meet in the designated carpark at 9.00 am. Requirements This trip is open to members and guests, and novice, intermediate and advanced climbers. Find your level here at the Trip Participant Guidelines or contact the trip organiser. Werribee Gorge provides the opportunity for some great winter climbing. Of course there's the good friction in colder temps, but the amphitheatre just has the ptential to trap any sunshine. The routes at Falcon's Lookout provide a mixture of 'old school' classic cracks and corners and the more modern bolted face climbs. The single pitch routes make it easy to lead or set up topropes. Note that there is a 25-30 minute moderate walk into the crag from the carpark.
